Example: Cardioversion

Example: CardioversionAtrial Fibrillatory Rate (AFR) estimated from ECG lead V1 has been shown to correlate well with the invasively measured atrial rate and can be considered as an indicator of atrial organisation. Initial studies have indicated that AFR can be used to predict outcome of cardioversion in short duration AF patients [1] . In this study an AFR value above ~380 fpm predicts a negative outcome of cardioversion therapy.

Figure: Twenty-nine patients with AF duration less than 30 days were cardioverted. The pre-cardioversion mean AFR value for the patients who were maintaining SR after a month was significantly lower than for those who relapsed to AF during the same period. Graph adapted from [1].
